UIDAIIt brings out the famous Aadhar Card which is a ID proof of an Indian citizen.
UIDAI, also known as the Unique Identification Authority of India is the organisation that is responsible for issuing the Aadhar cards to the general public and for maintaining all the required details in the Aadhar database. This organisation that is controlled by the Government of India was set up during February 2009. This authorised organization’s main duty is to issue the unique cards that serve as good identification proofs for the citizens. These ID cards should not be confused with smart cards. The database owned, operated and controlled by this organization contains all details about the applicants to whom the cards are issued, their biometric data and so on.
The UIDAI belongs to India’s Planning Commission department and usually only a person who has a reputed position in the cabinet can become the Chairman of UIDAI. The Ex Co-Chairman of technology giant, Infosys was the first Chairman of UIDAI. On 1st April 2013, Vijay S Madan, an IAS officer took over as UIDAI’s Director General and Mission Director from Ram Sewak Sharma. Sharma had to take up the role of chief secretary in the state of Jharkhand; therefore Madan took over from him for UIDAI operations.
